It isn't that it defies clitisficasaon ; it's just right near the boundary between two categories (gas giant planet and brown dwarf).Spectroscopy should tell which it is in due time. Brown dwarfs are failed stars not hot enough to burn light hydrogen, but hot enough to burn deuterium (and lithium). Presence or absence of deuterium and lithium from the spectrum will indicate which it is, as it should be old enough for burning to have occurred even at that young age.
